Wisconsin Awards Top Exporters
Nine companies are the recipients of the 2006 Wisconsin Governor’s Export Achievement Awards.
Each year, the governor recognizes firms and organizations that have achieved extraordinary results in international sales or have contributed to Wisconsin’s increased ability to compete in a global market.
Department of Commerce Secretary Mary Burke presented the awards on behalf of Gov. Jim Doyle.
"Wisconsin exports have shown four straight years of incredibly strong growth, and our growth continues to surpass that of the nation," Doyle said.
Criteria for the awards include export-related growth; innovative techniques and approaches that resulted in the company’s success; and demonstration of extra effort in capturing worldwide markets.
The award winners are: Small Industrial Exporter, Anguil Environmental Systems Inc., Milwaukee; Medium Industrial Exporter, Bell Laboratories Inc., Madison; Large Industrial Exporter, Mercury Marine, Fond du Lac; Small Service Exporter, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville International Business Resource Center, Platteville; Small Agricultural Exporter, Accelerated Genetics, Baraboo; Agricultural Service Exporter, The UW-Babcock Institute, Madison; Special "Export Plus" Small, MetalTek International, Waukesha; Special "Export Plus" Large, Greenheck Fan Corp., Schofield; and Special "Export Plus" Agricultural, ABS Global Inc., De Forest.
Marquette University
The Applied Investment Management (AIM) program at Marquette University, Milwaukee, was selected as a program partner by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, Charlottesville, Va. The partnership designation means that Marquette offers a degree program that covers at least 70 percent of the CFA program candidate body of knowledge and the CFA Institute ethical and professional standards. The Marquette AIM program is the first undergraduate business program in the world and one of two in the U.S. to be in the partner program.
Robert Greenheck, chairman emeritus of the board and co-founder of Greenheck Fan Corp., Schofield, endowed a faculty chair for Marquette University’s College of Engineering. The $5 million endowment will create the Robert C. Greenheck Chair in Engineering Design to emphasize the importance of design and problem-solving activities throughout the college’s four-year curriculum. Greenheck received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Marquette in 1950. He received the distinguished alumnus award from the College of Engineering in 2004.
Mount Mary College
Lynne Woehrle, associate professor of sociology at Mount Mary College, Wauwatosa, received the 2006 CG Schmidt Ovation Award for Volunteerism from CG Schmidt Inc., Milwaukee. Woehrle was recognized for her service at Growing Power, an organization supporting individuals through the development of community food systems based upon the principles of environmentally sustainable agriculture. The CG Schmidt Foundation made a $1,500 donation to Growing Power as part of its recognition to Woehrle. Woehrle has been a Growing Power volunteer for about three years. She develops materials and presentations, contacts funding agencies and assists with strategic planning and events.
Conservent
Conservent, formerly KeyLink Solutions Inc., Germantown, now offers Choice One, an individual short term medical plan. Choice One offers plans underwritten by Standard Security Life Insurance Co. of New York. Choice One was primarily designed to fill temporary health insurance needs, but individuals may apply for three consecutive 12-month coverage periods. Other coverage features include a $2 million coverage period maximum per insured person, the choice to use any doctor or hospital and the choice of $250, $500, $1,000 and $2,500 deductibles.
Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee Inc.
The Volunteer Center of Greater Milwaukee, a program of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee Inc., Milwaukee, recognized local volunteers with Inspire By Example awards. Kelly Klaybor, a volunteer at Boerner Botanical Gardens, Hales Corners, received the youth award; Michael Froemming, a volunteer at St. Benedict Community, Milwaukee, received the adult award; Sherri Elliott and Sister Therese MacKinnon, volunteers for the St. Hyacinth Emergency Food Pantry, Milwaukee, received the team award; Amy Whittenberger and Mary Dowell received the business award from Johnson Controls Inc., Glendale, and Michael Stivoric received the Franzmeier Leadership Award for volunteer work in his community. Stivoric was also recognized for forming Join Hands Day to bring youth and adult volunteers together. Each winner received a $500 donation made to the agency where they volunteer.
Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association
The Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized five local companies with awards for outstanding community planning. The Planning and Design Institute Inc., Milwaukee, and A.N. Ansay Real Estate, Port Washington, received an award in the planning tool category for Village Center Planning Book, which details architectural styles and gardens from Luxembourg for the proposed mixed-use development in the Village of Belgium that would include a commercial district, grocery store and the Luxembourg American Cultural Center. Omni Associates, Appleton, received an award in the planning document category for the City of Evansville. The City of River Falls and the City of Eau Claire received awards in the planning document category for their city comprehensive plans and McGrath Associates, Madison, received an award in the urban design category for the Union Corners development master plan.
Commercial Association of Realtors Wisconsin
Sandi Anderson was named president of the Commercial Association of Realtors Wisconsin (CARW), Milwaukee. Anderson will serve as the chief executive officer of CARW and executive director for Building Owners and Managers Association of Wisconsin/Apartment Owners and Managers Association of Greater Milwaukee, as well as the Wisconsin Chapter of Certified Commercial Investment Members and the Real Estate Alliance for Charity. Anderson has more than eight years of association management experience and previously served as the executive director for the Metropolitan Builders Association of Greater Milwaukee. Most recently, Anderson served as strategic marketing manager for Kahler Slater Architects Inc., Milwaukee.
Brookfield Convention & Visitors Bureau
The Brookfield Convention & Visitors Bureau received Destination Marketing Association certification from the Wisconsin Convention & Visitors Bureau, Sun Prairie. The certification is given to destination marketing organizations that meet a set of destination marketing, organization, financial and personnel standards. Standards include having a non-profit organization that recognizes the connection between tourism promotion and economic prosperity and provides multiple destination marketing services to visitors.
Brady Marketing Group
Brady Marketing Group, Menomonee Falls, added MPE Inc., Milwaukee; Quest Technologies Inc., Oconomowoc; Customer Message Management LLC (CMM Group), Milwaukee, and CentraSep, Fisher, Ind., as clients. MPE produces custom carts and enclosures for medical and electronic original equipment manufacturers. Quest Technologies provides equipment, monitors and software for the global occupational health market. CMM Group is a training and consulting business specializing in marketing and sales. CentraSep is an industrial centrifuge manufacturer.
Sugar Creek Preserve LLC
Sugar Creek Preserve LLC, Lafayette, received an Excellence in Conservation Development award from Geneva Lake Conservancy, Fontana. The award was given to the developer of the project, Red Wing Land Co., a division of Keefe Real Estate, Lake Geneva. More than half of the 260 acres at Sugar Creek is permanently preserved and protected through a land conservation easement to be held by the Geneva Lake Conservancy. Red Wing Land Co. developed 52 homes on the property along with woodlands, streams, wetlands, a small lake and a restored prairie.
