Marcus completes digital theatre upgrades
Milwaukee-based Marcus Theatres, a division of The Marcus Corp., today announced it has completed the installation of digital cinema systems in 630 first-run screens at 47 company-owned locations.
As part of its large-scale digital cinema rollout, Marcus Theatres now offers moviegoers a complete digital experience – the Marcus Digital Xperience (MDX).
The Marcus Digital Xperience provides pristine visual presentations, along with the digital sounds and acoustical conditions in its auditoriums.
In addition, Marcus Theatres is offering NEC digital cinema projectors featuring 4K digital projection technology versus the standard 2K technology in 93 of its largest auditoriums. With greater than a 2,500-to-1 contrast ratio and the ability to project 35 trillion colors, the NEC 4K digital projection technology allows for even higher resolution, definition and depth, as well as faster digital projection speeds that enable more dramatic special effects and impeccable camera shots.
“It all adds up to the ultimate visual experience,” said Bruce Olson, president of Marcus Theatres. “The new projection technology is just one element of the entire Marcus Digital Xperience. The quality of the audio is as important as the image in providing moviegoers with a memorable cinema experience. When customers go to the movies, they expect to be ‘wowed’ and enjoy powerful, immersive sound they can’t hear anywhere else…We continue to update our theatres with new lobby areas, self-serve concession stands and comfortable, memory-foam cushioned seats to make the movie-going experience exceptional.”
The company also is offering closed-circuit captioning for our hearing-impaired patrons through the CaptiView Closed Caption Viewing System.
Olson also noted that digital cinema technology will enable the company to offer more presentations of live and recorded alternate programming such as sporting events, concerts and Broadway plays, in addition to more 3D systems as needed.
Milwaukee Athletic Club launches mentor program
The Milwaukee Athletic Club recently launched a mentor program designed to link young professionals with Milwaukee’s business elite.
“Mentees” are matched with experienced business leaders in their field of interest. Mentor and mentee meet monthly to share experiences and learn from each other.
"The MAC Mentor Program is a really great benefit of the club. Younger professionals have access to members who have been successful in the community," said Kathryn Poehling, a young CPA at Deloitte Touche LLP. “We can make them a part of our own networks as we shape our careers.”
Since 1882, the Milwaukee Athletic Club has been a gathering place of power and success. The Mentor Program seeks to tap that experience and share it with Milwaukee’s next generation of leaders.
“It provides an opportunity for younger members to learn from some of Milwaukee’s most-successful business leaders,” says Robert Grede, president of The Grede Company and a club mentor.
“It has been a good opportunity to connect with some of the younger professionals in the Club,” says Paul Sweeney, Partner with PS Capital Partners and a Club Mentor. “I get to learn what motivates them and what they are looking for in their careers.”

Walker to host Small Business Summit
Gov. Scott Walker will host Wisconsin’s Small Business Summit to be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Walker said he will speak about his efforts to improve Wisconsin’s business climate and get our state’s fiscal house in order to help create new jobs and retain existing employers.
“Small businesses are the engine of our state’s economy and continue to drive our economy forward,” Walker said. “As we deal with the effects of the global economic downturn, my administration is committed to listening to our small businesses and entrepreneurs on how we can create a strong partnership between the private sector and state government to promote job creation and stimulate our economy.”
Walker said Small Business Summit will give small business owners tools they need to help their businesses succeed, featuring educational workshops and access to Wisconsin’s business resources and leadership. The event will provide opportunities to connect with key state leaders and industry peers.
"This will be a unique opportunity for small business owners to meet the new leadership team in Governor Walker’s administration involved in job creation at key state agencies in Wisconsin,” said Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch. “The cabinet secretaries who have been actively involved in improving our state’s business climate by streamlining processes, simplifying regulations and improving communications with stakeholders will be actively involved in the day’s events."
