South Milwaukee Market gears up for fifth season

The South Milwaukee Downtown Market will open its fifth season on Thursday, May 23, with produce, organic goods, arts, crafts, baked items and more from dozens of area vendors.

“It’s great to be back, and we’re really excited about what we have to offer for 2013,” said market co-founder and South Milwaukee Alderman Erik Brooks. “Whether it’s new vendors or special events, we’re offering plenty of reasons for our existing fans to come back – and for new customers to give us a try.”

The market will feature weekly live music on the market stage with appearances by local musicians and music organizations like the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.

While listening to music and exploring produce, arts and crafts pieces for sale, patrons will also be able to enjoy prepared foods onsite.

The farmers’ market takes place every Thursday through Oct. 10 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 11th and Milwaukee Avenues in South Milwaukee’s city center.

Vendor spots are still available handmade merchandise, homemade baked goods or homegrown produce. Cost is $300 per stall for the season or $25 per week.

Additional scheduled highlights of this season’s market include an onstage barbecue grilling show on June 13, a health fair on Sept. 5, and the Fall Family Festival to wrap up the year.

“We have an outstanding lineup of local vendors, and we’re proud to have many of our longtime merchants returning in 2013,” said market co-founder and South Milwaukee City Clerk Jim Shelenske. “But we’re always trying to deliver new experiences for our customers. We want to provide something for everyone at the market, and we do.”
