Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington County will add 7,500 square feet to its existing 4,000-square-foot building in West Bend.
The $1.2 million project is a result of participant growth at the facility, which is at 925 N. Silverbrook Drive in West Bend. There were 325 members at the club in 2005, which ballooned to 1,300 members this year. The organization expects membership to continue growing.
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has contributed a $100,000 grant for the project.
“The Boys & Girls Club has done an impressive job over the years serving more and more kids with its after school and summer enrichment programs and activities,” said Fred Gutierrez, senior program officer for the GMF. “It’s clear that they need a larger facility in West Bend. We’re glad to join our partners in West Bend to make the dream for a new facility become a reality.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs grant was part of the GMF’s second quarter competitive grant cycle, through which it awarded $838,000 to address community issues. Other grantees include: Center for Veterans Issues, $50,000; First Stage, $25,000; Milwaukee Ballet Co., $25,000; Milwaukee Film, $20,000; Bradley Family Foundation, $20,000; Sixteenth Street Community Health Center, $66,000; Albright Methodist Church, $15,000; Ko-Thi Dance Co., $125,000; Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, $30,000; Public Policy Forum, $25,000; Northwest Side Community Development Corp., $24,000.
