A group of 11 Milwaukee chefs will prepare gourmet dishes and alcoholic beverages inspired by the menu of iconic breakfast-food restaurant chain Waffle House at a benefit for the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative on May 23.
The event, called "Milwaukee Chefs for Homeless Vets," will be held at Merriment Social, 240 E. Pittsburgh Ave., Milwaukee, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will include a live auction and honor guard procession to honor veterans.
“This fundraiser will also bring more attention to the plight of our homeless heroes, whose sacrifices need to be repaid," said MHVI executive director Kirsten Sobieski in a statement posted to the group's website. "We greatly appreciate the generosity and outpouring of support from these great Milwaukee chefs, restaurants, sponsors and the public.”
Chefs preparing food at the event will be Andrew Miller, chef and co-owner of Merriment Social and Third Coast Provisions; Justin Carlisle, a National Guard veteran who is now chef and owner of Ardent; Susie Fortman, a personal chef and veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom; Erik Hansen, chef at Supper; Thomas Hauck, chef and owner of c. 1880 and Karl Ratzsch's; Aaron Patin, chef and owner of Iron Grate BBQ Co.; Rosy Rodriguez, chef at Company Brewing; Dan Van Rite and Dan Jacobs, owners and chefs at Dandan; and Paul Zerkel and Lisa Kirkpatrick, chefs and co-owners at Goodkind.
Dishes will include what the MHVI described on its website as "re-imagined takes on Waffle House classics" and Waffle House-inspired alcoholic beverages.
Tickets, which include food and drinks, cost $150 and can be bought on the MHVI website. Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction will go toward the MHVI.
Event sponsors include 3 Sheeps Brewing, Bittercube Bitters and Company Brewing.
