Big Brothers Big Sisters ignites staff potential

Thought Leadership: Flourishing Pledge

We create and support mentoring relationships for youth facing adversity.

Can you share examples of initiatives aimed at enhancing the physical and mental health of your employees?

Besides generous health insurance benefits, Big Brothers Big Sisters prioritizes employee well-being by offering a free EAP, personal days, summer hours, and flexible scheduling. We encourage employees to take a rest or a brain break when they feel the need to recharge.

In what ways does your company encourage and facilitate the formation of close social relationships among employees?

Our “Funshine Committee” consists of staff from every department, tasked with planning enjoyable fellowship opportunities both in and out of the office. Employees enjoy an annual summer getaway (such as a riverboat cruise, Summerfest, Brewers, or mini-golf) and a holiday party. Throughout the year, we provide food days, trivia contests, giveaways, and opportunities to collaborate. We celebrate birthdays and life events and grieve losses together.

What role does leadership play in promoting and upholding employee well-being in your organization?

Our CEO and leadership team have an open-door policy. Our people leaders begin each check-in by asking staff how they’re feeling on a scale from 1 to 5. This helps supervisors monitor employees’ well-being over time and gives us opportunities to course correct when necessary. HR will also track aggregate data to keep tabs on general trends.
