Michael D. Akers, CPA, CBM, CFE, CGMA, CIA, CMA, Ph.D., Charles T. Horngren professor of accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting at Marquette University in Milwaukee, has joined the 2017–2018 Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (WICPA) Board of Directors as chair-elect. A WICPA member since 1997, Akers serves as a member of the Institute’s Board of Directors, Nominations Committee and Accounting Higher Education Committee. He also served as a member of several other WICPA committees, including the Excellence Awards Selection Committee and Finance Committee. He resides in New Berlin. The WICPA Board of Directors represents the membership, exercises leadership, participates in strategic planning, and approves the annual WICPA budget, bylaw amendments, selection of auditors, and other actions relating to organizational governance. The Board consists of 15 members. New members began serving after they were elected May 4, 2017 at the Member Recognition Banquet and Annual Business Meeting.
