Good Friend, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity based in Waukesha, is celebrating ten years of creating autism awareness, teaching acceptance of differences, and fostering empathy among typically-developing peers all across Wisconsin. To commemorate such a milestone, Good Friend, Inc., is putting on a dual-purpose event on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Steinhafel’s in Waukesha, that consists of a community forum as well as a celebration.
During the invitation-only Community Conversation, service agencies, education stakeholders, family members of youth on the autism spectrum, and young adults on the spectrum will provide input on “The Big T: Adulting with Autism”, from 3-5 p.m.,. This discussion will help shape GFI’s next film project, which will focus on what happens for youth in the spectrum in high school and beyond.
The Education Center will be re-set for “A Decade of Doing” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Guests will include the cast and crew of Good Friend, Inc.’s three films, past and current board members, area supporters, and those who wish to know more about GFI’s programs and mission. Food and beverages will be provided as well as a chance to take home an event t-shirt! All are welcome to this free admission event. Registration is appreciated.

“By using positive stories, interactive exercises, and reinforcing good friend behavior through our novel K-8th grade curriculum and community outreach, we enhance the educational and social experience for all children, one presentation at a time,” explained GFI co-founder Denise Schamens (Pewaukee). “We’ve enjoyed reaching out to nearly 40,000 students in our first decade, and look forward to meeting those in our path next!”
