Sandi Lybert

Sandi Lybert, director and co-founder of Your Choice to Live, Inc., has been named 2017 Champion of the County by Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow. The award, one of four given annually, recognizes an individual whose efforts promote and improve the quality of life in Waukesha County. Lybert will receive her award during a luncheon November 8, 2017, at the Milwaukee Marriott West in Waukesha.

Other honorees are Hebron House, Large Non-profit of the Year; Oconomowoc Silver Streak, Small Non-profit of the Year; and R&R Insurance, Business of the Year.

“I am truly honored and humbled to receive this award,” Lybert said. “My hope is that this recognition can help us spread Your Choice to Live’s message of prevention and hope to families throughout our communities.”

Your Choice’s mission is to provide awareness, prevention education, resources and support to youth, parents, schools and communities regarding alcohol and drug use. Programs to address substance abuse among teens and young adults include the Stairway to Heroin Educational Series, a four-part prevention plan; Deadly Decisions and Playgrounds to Pills. The non-profit organization seeks to shape healthy, responsible and successful future generations who are equipped with the resilience and decision-making skills to make good choices in all aspects of their lives.

Goals include:
• Raising awareness about drugs and alcohol among youth, parents, and the community through education on the risks of drug and alcohol and helping them work together.
• Removing barriers to discussing the issues of drugs/alcohol and the devastating effects on young people and their families.
• Restructuring resources to offer a variety of support, education, counseling and treatment.

Lybert, self-described as the mother of a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, left her career in banking to pursue building Your Choice, co-founded with her family – husband, Rick, and children Ashleigh Lybert Nowakowski and Tyler Lybert. Her family, along with other volunteers, speaks at schools and to parents and community members about the devastating effects of drugs and alcohol. She believes that by telling her story, they can help save other families from the struggle and heartache she experienced.
