Colleagues say Dr. Heather Hinson, an optometrist with Milwaukee-based Vision Forward, has been a hero to low-vision clients in the Milwaukee area for decades.
“Her work in health care has changed the lives of young children being diagnosed with low vision to adults adjusting to significant changes in their eyesight,” said Diana Voigt, director of marketing and communications at Beyond Vision.
While many optometrists focus on general vision practices, Hinson specializes in low vision, which causes range from physical trauma to genetic issues. In fact, her entire 30-plus-year career has been devoted to providing low-vision rehabilitation services.
“Many of us don’t realize that people with low vision require specialized eye care. Because of the complexity and variety of conditions, it can be a difficult practice,” Voigt said. “Without Dr. Hinson as a resource, many people would have been stranded.”
