CG Schmidt to build Uline headquarters

Milwaukee-based CG Schmidt Inc. announced this week that it has been awarded the construction management services contract for the new Uline Inc. headquarters to be built in Pleasant Prairie.

"We are pleased that Uline chose CG Schmidt to manage the construction of their corporate headquarters," said David Schmidt, CG Schmidt’s director of corporate and industrial business development. "We are thrilled to be working in Kenosha (County) again with such a respected business leader and community partner."

Site work has already begun for the new Uline headquarters. The company will move to Pleasant Prairie from Waukegan, Ill. The new facility will consist of 280,000 square feet of office space in a three-story building and 1.1 million square feet of distribution space. The headquarters building will include Class A office space, a central three-story gathering and training area, kitchen and cafeteria, fitness center and upgraded employee offices. Extensive outdoor walking trails and natural landscaping will also be included on the property.

Construction of the corporate offices is expected to be complete during the spring of 2010. Initially, about 650 employees are expected to work in the Uline headquarters offices. Construction for the distribution space is expected to be complete by the end of 2009. Initially 200 employees will work at the distribution center. Later, in a second phase of the project, Uline plans to add another 200,000 square feet of office space and 800,000 square feet of distribution space. Completion of all phases for the Uline campus is expected to be complete in 2015, and about 1,000 employees are expected to be working on the campus at that time.

The architect for the Uline project is Milwaukee-based Eppstein Uhen Architects.
