Brookfield-based R.A. Smith National’s Laura Zavadil, Joseph Diekfuss, David Boldt and Andrew Axt have each attained their Wisconsin professional engineer registrations.
Diekfuss, Ph.D. is a structural engineer at R.A. Smith National with eight years of experience in structural engineering. He is experienced in the design of both bridges and buildings and has designed structures for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, local government and private developments. The structures include single- and multi-span bridges, retaining walls, box culverts and low-rise buildings. He is also co-author of three articles recently published in the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Journal of Structural Engineering. The articles describe a methodology for prescribing inspection intervals for mast-arm sign support structures that better align inspection needs with limited fiscal and human resources. Diekfuss has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (structural and geotechnical emphases) from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in civil engineering (structural emphases) from Marquette University. Diekfuss lives in the city of Waukesha.
