She knew the working parents of her children couldn’t afford to have her close due to COVID-19
Shutting down wasn’t an option.
Yet, she couldn’t stomach the thought of her family or her kids’ families getting sick.
In March, Zastoupil, the owner of Zasty’s Family Child Care, located in Milton, WI, had been using a combination of natural cleaning products and bleach to sanitize toys and common areas in her daycare.
The arrival process each day involved kids being dropped off outside of the facility, immediate handwashing once inside, and a watchful eye over the children to make sure they continue to wash their hands throughout the day.
It was time and resource intense, and a short-term solution.
But then, an additional form of protection appeared.
When Zastoupil learned that a local company, Green Up Solutions, could apply OMNIShield, an invisible and safe antimicrobial that inhibits bacteria from living on surfaces, she acted quickly.
“There is a lot of fear and uncertainty, and for me to be able to do this extra thing [OMNIShield] is one less fear [to worry about].”
OMNIShield lasts on porous and non-porous surfaces for 90 days. Itwas applied at Zasty’s Family Child Care on all surfaces 6 feet and below.
OMNIShield is food surface safe, colorless, and odorless.
By forming a nanolayer of spikes on the surfaces it is applied to, OMNIShield inhibits bacteria and viruses from surviving on surfaces – even the ones that people interact with regularly.
With flu season just around the corner, Zasty’s is ready for its second application of OMNIShield.
“A regular practice of doing this [service] again is definitely going to be on my agenda,” Zastoupil states. “It was very quick, easy, and painless.”
The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families provides child care facilities with resources such as safeguards and recommended safety actions, including increased hygiene practices, intensified cleaning and disinfection plans, and a staff trained on safety policies.
Even with those guidelines, the DCF estimated that over 40% of the more than 2,500 child care and preschool providers in the state had opted to shut down by April 21st, 2020.
