The Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Board was awarded a $4 million U.S. Department of Labor TechHire grant Tuesday.
The grant will be used to train 456 individuals over the next four years for IT related positions in advanced manufacturing, information technology and heath care.
The WorkIT program will target unemployed or underemployed individuals ages 17 to 29 with barriers to employment.
In partnership with the Southeast Workforce Development Board and Employ Milwaukee, the WOW Workforce Development Board will provide case management services, education and skills training, work experience, and specialized services that lead to employment in middle-to high-skill jobs.
Potential credentials earned through the program included CNC technician technical diploma, web design certificate, machine tool operator certification and an associate of applied science in health information technology.
Employ Milwaukee and United Migrant Opportunity Services, Inc. also received $4 million each from the department for programs of their own.
