Wisconsin added 31,000 jobs from September 2012 to September 2013, 28,351 of which were in the private sector, according to the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The 1.2 percent increase in private sector hiring ranks the state 35th in job creation among the 50 states, an improvement from 37th in the previous quarter.
North Dakota ranked first in private sector job creation with 13,433 jobs created, a 3.8 percent increase. West Virginia was last, losing 4,056 private sector jobs, a 0.7 percent decrease.
In the Midwest, Illinois was ranked 41st, adding 42,542 private jobs for a 0.9 percent increase, Minnesota was ranked 20th, adding 43,527 jobs for a 1.9 percent increase and Iowa was ranked 25th, adding 19,915 jobs for a 1.6 percent increase. Michigan is ranked highest in the region, 11th overall, up 2.7 percent, adding 90,680 private sector jobs.
During the same time period, private sector employers in Milwaukee County added 5,664 jobs, a 1.4 percent increase. Waukesha County was up 1.1 percent, with 2,383 new jobs. Ozaukee County added 541 jobs, a 1.5 percent increase. Washington County was up 2.4 percent with 1,088 new jobs. Sheboygan County was up 2.9 percent with 1,519 new jobs. Kenosha County added 1,659 jobs, a 3.8 percent increase. Walworth County added 534 jobs, a 1.6 percent increase.
Racine County, however, was down 1.6 percent, losing 1,027 jobs.
