The Wisconsin Club board of directors has approved a multi-year, $3.5 million golf course renovation.
The Wisconsin Club operates a City Club located at 900 W. Wisconsin Ave. and purchased the Country Club at 6200 W. Good Hope Road in 2009.
“Since purchasing the course four years ago, we’ve invested a significant amount of resources. While the course is considered to be one of the finer courses in the area, our goal is to make it the best,” said club general manager John Constantine.
The club has hired internationally known golf course architect Bruce Hepner of Hepner Golf Design in Traverse City, Mich..
Constantine said, “After talking with a number of architects, we selected Bruce and his firm for a number of reasons. First, Bruce has extensive experience working with Tom Doak as his vice president for over 17 years before starting his own firm in 2010. Bruce is credited with working on and or consulting with 25 of the top golf courses in the world, according to golf industry sources. Secondly, Bruce takes a, hands on approach. He prefers to actually work on the equipment used to reshape and renovate courses.”
Hepner’s goal is to create more interest, greater variety and additional character to our course.
The first phase will start Sept. 16 and involve adding new bunkers, tee boxes and widening many of the fairways. The second phase will focus on a new irrigation system and phase three will be devoted to the practice facilities.
“The golf course renovations will be paid for out of operating revenue. There will be no special member assessment or bank financing. No final completion date has been set. However the course will be open throughout the renovations,” Constantine said.
