Wisconsin businesses earn recognition for sustainability

The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council recently recognized 34 companies as Green Masters at the sixth annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council Conference.

The ceremony was held at the Lands’ End corporate campus in Dodgeville.

The Green Masters Program is a recognition program that highlights the sustainability initiatives of Wisconsin. Developed by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council and Wisconsin businesses, in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Green Masters Program recognizes Wisconsin’s sustainability leaders.

Green Masters are companies that have scored in the top 20 percent of all participating companies in the Green Masters
Program. As Green Masters, the companies have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability leadership both within their sectors and in their communities.

“We’re proud to announce that 34 Wisconsin businesses have been recognized as Green Masters,” said Tom Eggert, executive director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. “These organizations are innovators while adhering to a Triple Bottom line philosophy, demonstrating that companies can be profitable and socially and environmentally responsible.”

“It’s been incredibly encouraging to see all of the amazing initiatives companies throughout the state are implementing – from LEED certification to community gardens to landfill gas-to-energy projects,” said Marcus Cederström, program director of the Green Masters Program. “This year, of the 167 companies, nearly 50 percent are businesses with less than 100 employees. We’re also excited to welcome 53 new companies to the program.”
