Private sector employment increased by a seasonally-adjusted 6,000 jobs in January and the state’s unemployment rate remained unchanged, according to data released by the Department of Workforce Development.
Newly benchmarked data also showed the state added 22,600 jobs since January of last year, representing a 0.9 percent increase in employment.
The state’s unemployment rate has held steady at 3 percent since July, according to department data.
Total nonfarm employment was up 4,900 from December with state and local government employment dipping slightly.
The private sector saw no significant shifts in employment during the month. On the goods producing side, construction employment was up by 2,200 and manufacturing employment increased 1,100.
Among service providing industries, the trade sector saw the largest shift with employment up 5,500, primarily driven by an increase in retail. Professional and business services, however, saw employment drop by 1,800.
