William Massey

Dr. William Massey, a Concordia University Wisconsin assistant professor and expert on child development in low-income neighborhoods, has been appointed to Operation DREAM Inc.’s board of directors, Board Chairman Dr. Mark Wichman announced Wednesday.

“William’s education, research and clinical work for over a decade with inner-city youth is relevant to the work we do every day at Operation DREAM,” Wichman said. “He understands the complex reality and issues that many of our boys deal with in their communities, families and schools. His knowledge will help us perfect our approach to addressing the social, economic and educational disparities among so many young males in this city.”

Dr. Massey is an assistant professor at Concordia University Wisconsin, in the Department of Occupational Therapy. His work includes years of study on the influence of sport, play, and other physical activities on the cognitive and social development of children living in low-income and/or high violent communities. He has partnered with Milwaukee Public School students, faculty and administration through the Research and Innovation Office.

“My research specifically examines how we can use sport and play, and how physical activity enhances the social, cognitive, and academic functioning for youth in low-income and highly violent populations,” Massey said.

For over 10 years, Operation DREAM has provided mentoring and employment programs for the most under resourced boys in the city of Milwaukee.
