Wells Fargo donates $150,000 toward neighborhood revitalization

Wells Fargo Bank has contributed a $150,000 grant to a joint project between ACTS Housing and Rebuilding Together of Greater Milwaukee that aims to breathe new life into distressed neighborhoods and give low-income income residents and families a chance to become homeowners.

The grant will benefit “Home Again,” a collaboration headed by the two organizations that will enable low-income, first-time homebuyers to purchase and renovate vandalized foreclosures for owner occupancy.

The program will also serve current central-city homeowners whose properties are in need of emergency repairs.

“We are honored to be receiving this grant from Wells Fargo,” said Carl Quindel, executive director of ACTS Housing. “Project ‘Home Again’ will be an integral part of our work to help turn distressed neighborhoods into thriving communities.”

Through “Home Again,” ACTS Housing plans to work with PropertyVets to provide job opportunities to unemployed and underemployed military veterans who can assist with repair projects.

PropertyVets, which owns and manages a collection of area rental properties, works to train veterans and connect veteran laborers and contractors with employment.

The grant from Wells Fargo, known as the Leading the Way Home Priority Markets grant, reinforces the company’s nationwide focus on revitalizing struggling neighborhoods by supporting nonprofits that are active in these neighborhoods.

“Wells Fargo is proud to support ACTS Housing and Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee in their work in the central city,” said Daniel Sweeney, community development officer at Wells Fargo. “These grants will help stabilize and rebuild local communities, revitalize neighborhoods in Milwaukee and help residents on their journey to financial success.”

Both ACTS Housing and Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee aim to create quality, affordable housing in Milwaukee. While ACTS Housing focuses on connecting low-income families with homeownership, Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee provides free home repairs and modifications to the homes of low-income senior citizens, veterans and residents with disabilities living in Milwaukee.
