WEDC seeks companies for South Africa trade mission

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. (WEDC) is seeking Wisconsin companies to participate in a trade mission to South Africa March 6-15.

The goal of this mission is to assist small to medium-sized companies from the Great Lakes region to export products and services to South Africa.

The Council of Great Lakes Governors (CGLG) is hosting the trade mission that includes briefings and meetings in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The sectors that are the focus of the trade mission include: automotive parts and line technology; agricultural equipment and processing machinery; construction equipment; medical equipment; mining equipment; power generation and supply; and engineering and consultancy services.

Wisconsin’s exports to South Africa in 2011 totaled $226 million, up 43.9 percent over the previous year.  South Africa’s purchases from Wisconsin are dominated by parts and components for cranes and material handling equipment; self-propelled bulldozers, graders and scrapers; tractors; and transmission shafts, bearings and gears.

South Africa has the world’s largest supplies of gold, platinum, chromium, vanadium and other precious and semi-precious metals.
