Wauwatosa medical informatics company acquired

TeraMedica Inc., a Wauwatosa-based medical informatics company, has been acquired by FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A. Inc. The announcement was made today by FUJIFILM, a Stamford, Conn.-based diagnostic imaging product provider with approximately 6,000 North and South American employees.

TeraMedica’s Wauwatosa location will remain in operation, according to FUJIFILM spokeswoman Diane Rainey, and all 40 employees will stay on with the company. It will now, however, be known as FUJIFILM TeraMedica Inc.

FUJIFILM said the acquisition will allow it to offer the market a leading Vendor Neutral Archiving (VNA) technology.

“As a leader in clinical archiving, TeraMedica is at the forefront of the Vendor Neutral Archive market,” said Jim Morgan, FUJIFILM vice president of medical informatics. “It is a company with talented people and unique technology that will strengthen our position in health care informatics. Together, we will be able to deliver medical informatics solutions that acquire, analyze, interpret and present patient data in ways that are meaningful for providers in the most challenging environments.”

TeraMedica is an established leader in VNA technology and recently received the VNA/Image Archive KLAS Category Leader Award for 2014 as part of the Best in KLAS Report. The company enables cross-departmental image content sharing of patient data from disparate health care IT applications, while maintaining the integrity of the original data stored.

Today, VNA technology allows a growing number of health care enterprises around the world to achieve integrated patient-centric health care.

“The VNA market is expected to see significant growth in the coming years, and now with the combined strength of FUJIFILM Medical Systems, we have the ability to meet this demand,” said Jim Prekop, president and chief executive officer of FUJIFILM TeraMedica Inc. “This transaction will bring together the complementary strengths of FUJIFILM’S best-in-class software and services with TeraMedica’s pioneering VNA, maximizing our operational efficiencies.”
