Wauwatosa mayor to take county economic development post

Wauwatosa Mayor Jill Didier today announced she is resigning from her post to accept a new position as the Milwaukee County economic development coordinator.
“As the new Milwaukee County economic development coordinator, I am looking forward to drawing on the economic development skills I’ve used successfully in the City of Wauwatosa,” Didier said. “I’m proud of the projects we’ve pursued in Wauwatosa during my tenure on the city council and as mayor, and I am looking forward to expanding this successful economic development approach to benefit all of Milwaukee County.”
Didier was first elected to the Wauwatosa Common Council in April 2006 and became mayor in April 2008.
Didier said she has focused on maintaining a strong capital projects budget, strengthening economic development efforts and pursuing new projects, such as the sports complex at Hart Park, that enhance Wauwatosa’s overall quality of life. “As economic development coordinator for Milwaukee County, I will be working closely with other economic development leaders and directors in other county municipalities to deploy the same strong economic development strategies,” Didier said. “By working collaboratively, we will be able to strengthen the entire county’s economic development efforts.”
With Didier’s resignation, Wauwatosa Common Council Chair Eric Meaux will assume the duties of mayor. No special election will be held to fill the position, which is up for election in April 2012. Anyone interested in seeking the position of Wauwatosa mayor can file candidacy paperwork as of today at Wauwatosa City Hall.
