Waukesha education nonprofit may close

The National Centers for Learning Excellence Inc. has announced it may close its Waukesha, Oconomowoc and West Bend facilities because of a potential end to federal funding it relies on.

The nonprofit filed a WARN notice with the state last week, indicating it is currently competing for funding through the federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs and related state funding. An announcement is expected in late June.

NCLE’s operations are at N4W22000 Bluemound Road in Waukesha, 815 S. Concord Road in Oconomowoc and 2295 Continental Drive in West Bend. It may close them on June 30 if the funding doesn’t come through, and it cannot predict with certainty that its programs will be refunded.

The closures would result in the layoff of 69 employees, beginning on June 30.
