Wangard buys site for Wauwatosa apartment development

An affiliate of Wangard Partners Inc. recently purchased a 9.4-acre site at 1201/1215 N. 62nd St. in Wauwatosa for $2.265 million from an affiliate of Northbrook, Ill.-based Learsi & Co. Inc., according to state records.

The site was formerly occupied by a Western Metals plant.

Wangard plans to develop a six-building, 169-unit apartment complex on the site. A groundbreaking ceremony for the project will be held on July 17.

The project is called The Reef. The site is located along the Schoonmaker Reef, a 425 million-year-old fossilized reef that is a national historic landmark. The apartment development will provide public access to the Schoonmaker Reef.
