MPC Inc., a Walworth-based plastic molder, has partnered with Ohio-based PolyOne Corporation to develop an eco-friendly engine cover for the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
The engine cover is molded from a metallic-effect material that mimics the luster of painted polymer versions, yet eliminates the extra energy requirements and environmental challenges of traditional manufacturing and painting processes.
"This project underscores our focus on innovation and eco-friendly technologies," said Doug Callahan, MPC’s vice president of engineering. "It also demonstrates the level of success that can be reached with these types of collaborative relationships."
Earlier this month, the Ford Fusion Hybrid was named the North American Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show. The Fusion was also named the Motor Trend Car of the Year and was one of the top 10 selling cars in the United States in 2009.
