Walmart plans 2 smaller-format Southwest Side stores

    Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to open smaller-format Neighborhood Market stores in the Little Village and Back of the Yards neighborhoods next year.

    The Back of the Yards store, to be in vacant retail space at West 47th and South Bishop streets, will be about 31,000 square feet and employ around 100 people, a spokesman for the Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer said.

    About four miles away, the company also plans a store at 2551 W. Cermak Road in Little Village, which will be roughly 37,000 square feet and employ about 120 people, the spokesman said.
