Walker agrees to 2 debates with Barrett

The Friends of Scott Walker campaign announced this afternoon that Gov. Walker will participate in two statewide televised debates against Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett leading up to the gubernatorial recall election on June 5.

“Governor Walker is excited to discuss the positive effects that the bold reforms put in place last year have brought to the people of Wisconsin and how those reforms are moving the state forward,” said Walker campaign spokeswoman Ciara Matthews. “He looks forward to the robust debates and contrasting his record of success that has laid the foundation for a successful future against the failed policies of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett that would take the state backward.”
Earlier today, Barrett had challenged Walker to four debates.
“Scott Walker loves to launch misleading attacks on jobs, so let’s meet face-to-face and compare our records and our visions on jobs for the people of Wisconsin,” Barrett said. “He can explain why Wisconsin lost more jobs than any other state in the nation under his watch.”
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association will host the first debate on Friday, May 25, and the second is scheduled for Thursday, May 31, hosted by WISN-12 UpFront with Mike Gousha, in partnership with Marquette University Law School, WisPolitics.com and the UpFront network of affiliates.
Barrett will appear at a Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon to be held in conjunction with the Milwaukee Rotary Club at the War Memorial Center, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive in downtown Milwaukee over lunch at noon on Tuesday, May 22. Advanced registration is available online at www.milwaukeepressclub.org.
The Milwaukee Press Club and the Milwaukee Rotary Club also are attempting to lock in a date to feature Walker in a Newsmaker Luncheon before the June 5 recall election.
