WAC plans fitness center at 833 East Michigan

The Wisconsin Athletic Club plans to open a 24,000-square-foot fitness center in the 18-story office building that Wauwatosa-based Irgens plans to build at 833 E. Michigan St. in downtown Milwaukee, according to numerous commercial real estate sources.

Irgens last week announced details of its plans to build a $100 million, 350,000-square-foot office building at the site of the U.S. Bank Center annex parking structure.
The building would be the new headquarters for the Godfrey & Kahn law firm, which would occupy 100,000 square feet on the top four floors.

Irgens also said that a 24,000-square-foot fitness center and a 20,000-square-foot office tenant had signed letters of intent to occupy the building, which will be called 833 East Michigan. The firm declined to name those tenants.

However, several commercial real estate sources say the fitness center would be a Wisconsin Athletic Club.

Wisconsin Athletic Club currently has one downtown Milwaukee location in the 411 E. Wisconsin Ave. building and suburban locations in West Allis, Waukesha, Greenfield, Wauwatosa and Glendale.

“The Wisconsin Athletic Club (WAC) continues to look to add new club locations and fitness sites to service its members and the community in the greater Milwaukee area,” Wisconsin Athletic Club CEO Ray O’Connor and President Keith Nygren said in a joint statement. “The WAC does not comment on new club sites until they are set to go with government approvals. At this time, there are no WAC projects set to go for governmental approvals.”
