Von Maur signs contract for store at The Corners

Davenport, Iowa-based Von Maur Department stores announced Tuesday that it has signed finalized negotiations and has signed a contract to open a 150,000-square-foot store in The Corners of Brookfield development, a mixed-use 460,000-square-foot project that is being developed by The Marcus Corp. southeast of Bluemound Road and Barker Road in the Town of Brookfield.

Von Maur’s plans to anchor the development have been known publicly, and have been acknowledged by Von Maur and Marcus Corp., for some time.

But Von Maur’s announcement indicates that the deal has been finalized.

“They actually signed the lease, that’s big news,” said Cory Sovine, vice president of retail for Siegel-Gallagher. “That shows a massive commitment and a significant likelihood that this project is going to happen. Now that Von Maur is signed, I would expect some new marketing push with lots of fanfare.”

Construction for The Corners is expected to begin in June of 2013 and the Von Maur store is expected to open in the fall of 2014.

It will be the first Von Maur store in Wisconsin and it is expected to have about 200 employees.

“After years of analyzing the market, we’re elated to have found such an ideal location for us to grow our brand,” said Jim von Maur, president of Von Maur. “We’re excited to become a part of The Corners of Brookfield and look forward to showcasing our popular lines of merchandise to local Milwaukee area shoppers.”
