Volvo Rents is looking for a franchisee in the Milwaukee area to open stores in western Waukesha and southeast Washington counties.
Ashville, N.C.-based Volvo Rents, a division of Volvo Construction, which is a subsidiary of Volvo Group, is looking for a franchisee in the Milwaukee area to open stores in western Waukesha and southeast Washington counties.
Volvo Rents leases general construction and industrial equipment including backhoes, excavators, saws, lifts and generators. The company’s customers are typically small businesses.
"Our end user is generally a small business that doesn’t want to own all of the equipment that they need to do a job," said Volvo Rents vice president of marketing Mick Mavrick.
Volvo Rents has 82 locations in North America, and almost all of them are owned by franchisees. The company has targeted the Milwaukee area for expansion because of the area’s economic stability compared to other more volatile markets and projects for healthy construction activity in the area.
Volvo Rents looks for locations on the "outskirts of growth" for its stores, Mavrick said. The stores need about 3 acres and 3,000 square feet of space under roof. The company will consider building new or leasing an existing building.
The company likes locations along a highway, although that is not an absolute must, Mavrick said.
"Visibility is important to our business," he said.
Volvo Rents is looking for a franchisee to open the two locations in the Milwaukee area. One store would be opened first, and then work would begin on the other store. Ideally a franchisee will be identified within the next three months and the first store will open next spring, Mavrick said.
Volvo Rents provides financing to its franchisees to help them get started.
"It’s strategic for us to do it, especially with today’s capital markets," Mavrick said.
