UWM groundbreaking for $75 million campus building

Organizations:

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the start of construction for the 93,000-square-foot, $75 million Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex.

The facility will be built northwest of Kenwood Boulevard and Maryland Avenue. It will be the first new academic building on the UWM campus on Milwaukee’s East Side in more than a decade.

UWM officials say the facility will address the most urgent academic and research needs in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

Construction of the building is expected to be complete in early 2015. The complex will eventually include a second building.

The Physics Department will be the anchor tenant of the first building.
