UW-Parkside names art exhibit space in honor of Racine businessman

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside named its campus art exhibition space the Emile H. Mathis Gallery in honor of Racine businessman and art connoisseur Emile Mathis, owner of Mathis Gallery and Conservation Framing in Racine.

The space, formerly the Regional Center Gallery, is located in the new Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities on the UW-Parkside campus.
According to Parkside chancellor, Deborah Ford, Mathis Gallery and Conservation Framing has served as the University’s art exhibition space when construction forced the closure of the school’s Communication Arts Gallery.
The Emile H. Mathis Gallery preserves Mathis’ art legacy for generations of students and artists to enjoy, said David Diaz, director of development at UW-Parkside.
Hours for the Mathis Gallery and the other two galleries within the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for the Arts and Humanities are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m., Thursdays noon to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For a list of exhibitions, visit www.uwp.edu keyword art galleries.
