Uline to occupy another large Pleasant Prairie building

Pleasant Praire-based Uline, which earlier this year announced significant expansion plans in Kenosha County, also plans to occupy a large industrial building that is under construction in Pleasant Prairie.

Uline, a distributor of industrial moving and packaging products, plans to occupy a 521,052-square-foot industrial building that Centerpoint WisPark Land Company II LLC, a joint venture of Oak Brook, Ill.-based CenterPoint Properties and Milwaukee-based Wispark LLC, is building at 8495 116th St. in Pleasant Prairie. The project is expected to be complete in June of 2015.

Uline plans to use the facility as a distribution hub that will ship products to other distribution centers, said Jean Werbie-Harris, community development director of Pleasant Prairie. The facility will have 30 employees, operating in two shifts 24 hours a day, she said.

The company’s plans will be reviewed by the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission on Monday, Sept. 8.

This is the latest of several major developments for Uline in Kenosha County.

The company moved its corporate headquarters to Kenosha County in 2010, relocating from Waukegan, to a new 200,000-square-foot office building and a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Pleasant Prairie. That distribution center serves as the company’s national distribution center.

Earlier this year, the company announced plans to build a second 200,000-square-foot office building and a second 1 million-square-foot distribution center at its corporate headquarters campus. The company plans to add 500 jobs at those facilities.

Also this summer, Uline announced that its Midwest distribution center operations will move to a new facility that will be built on a 200-acre site at Highway 142 and I-94 in the City of Kenosha. Uline plans to build a 60,000-square-foot office building and a 1 million-square-foot distribution center for its Midwest distribution operations (serving Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa) at the Kenosha site. Construction is exected to begin in the spring of 2015. The office building will house the company’s largest call center.

The company plans to have about 475 employees at its planned facility at I-94 and Highway 142 in Kenosha. The establishment of that facility will mean the end of its operations in Waukegan. All of the employees there will have the option to relocate to the new facility.

The company currently has about 1,100 employees in Pleasant Prairie. Once the headquarters expansion project, the Midwest distribution center operations relocation project and the CenterPoint Wispark facility are complete the company will have about 2,105 employees in Kenosha County.

“They are an amazing company,” Werbie-Harris said.
