U.S. Bank Center goes ‘green’

Milwaukee’s tallest building, the U.S. Bank Center, went “green” yesterday when the building’s newly installed LED signs were turned on for the first time.

U.S. Bank, the building’s owner and one of its main tenants, swapped out the old signs as part of a building-wide energy savings project.

The new signs, which feature the U.S. Bank logo on the bank’s signature blue background, are projected to save 325,000 kWh or $25,000 per year.

“As the owner of the U.S. Bank Center, we are committed to the U. S. Department of Energy’s “Better Building Challenge” which pledges to reduce our building energy use by 20 percent by the year 2020,” said Bill Bertha, market president for U.S. Bank in Milwaukee. “By replacing the lighting in the four signs on top of Milwaukee’s tallest building, we not only reduce our own energy consumption, we hope to set an example in the community.”

The building’s previous signs were installed in 2002, after Firstar acquired U.S. Bank, and featured the bank’s logo on a white background.
