Three restaurants planned in new downtown Kenosha establishment

The owners of Captain Mike’s Beer & Burger Bar in downtown Kenosha plan to open a new downtown Kenosha establishment with three restaurants

Located at 707 56th St., the establishment will consist of three restaurants in one location: Mike’s Donuts & Chicken and Mike’s Chicken & Donut Bar on two sides of the first floor, and Mike’s Sportsbook on the upper level.

Construction on the 5,800-square-foot space has already begun.
The owners plan to open the new establishment by July 4, and will hire 50 new employees for full and part time positions.

The new venue seeks to create a similar feel to Captain Mike’s Beer & Burger Bar with large garage doors that let in light and air, taking advantage of the lakefront location.  It will also have outdoor seating for up to 80.

Mike’s Donuts & Chicken, on the lower level,  will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and will feature a menu that includes hand-made donuts and fried chicken served a variety of ways.   It will have counter service with carry-out as well as plenty of table seating for guests of all ages.

The other side of the first story – Mike’s Chicken & Donut Bar – will have similar but expanded menu  as well as a full bar featuring a  variety of local, regional, domestic and imported beers on tap and an assortment of specialty whiskeys.

Mike’s Sportsbook on the upper floor has a newly built bar and will have its own full kitchen.  A wing bar, hand-cut steaks, several  TVs, rooftop seating and special tap stations right at the customer’s table are some of the features of the sports bar-themed second story restaurant.

The new development was the first recipient of funds from the new downtown-specific revolving loan fund.  It was awarded $180,000 in April 2014.

“This revolving loan fund is doing exactly what it was designed to do,” said Kenosha Mayor Keith Bosman. “It’s fostering economic development in our downtown by creating a new business, attracting new customers, and adding new jobs.  The City of Kenosha is committed to supporting the revitalization of downtown and we look forward to welcoming many more new businesses to the area to meet the needs of a growing residential population and an increasing tourism base.”

The City of Kenosha tax incremental financing district #4 was capitalized with a $1 million grant from the City of Kenosha in January. The Kenosha Area Business Alliance was named the fiduciary agent and will be administering all funds with oversight from its Finance Committee. The funds are to be utilized to foster economic development in the Kenosha Lakeshore Business Improvement District and Downtown Main Street program area. Loan amounts range from $10,000 to no more than $250,000 and can be granted for no more than half of the development costs. The funds can be used by business to fund construction and/or improvement costs as well as for equipment expenses. Business interested in applying for funds can contact Downtown Kenosha Inc. Executive Director Violet Ricker.
