Three Milwaukee chefs are semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation’s 2016 awards.

Milwaukee chefs who made the list for Best Chef Midwest include Chef Justin Carlisle of Ardent, Thomas Hauck of c.1880 Dave Swanson of Braise.

Two of these chefs are growing their presence in Milwaukee. Carlisle plans to open a restaurant on the first floor of a proposed 13-story mixed-use tower on Farwell Avenue on Milwaukee’s East Side, Hauck recently purchased iconic downtown Milwaukee German restaurant Karl Ratzsch’s.

Mariano’s, the Chicago grocery store brand for Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc., is one of three presenting sponsors for the 2016 James Beard Awards (the others are HMSHost and Lexus).
