Theater revenues drive strong 2Q for Marcus

Milwaukee-based The Marcus Corp. today reported fiscal 2015 second quarter net earnings of $5.4 million, or 19 cents per share, up from $3.5 million, or 12 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2014.

Total revenues were $116.1 million, up from $100.6 million a year ago.

Theatre admission revenue at the hospitality and entertainment company was $32.8 million, up 20.3 percent from $28 million in the second quarter of 2014.

Concession revenues were up 29 percent in the quarter, driven by the company’s investments in expanded food and beverage concepts. It has also seen positive feedback from its DreamLounger recliner seating installations and theater renovations.

“This was a strong quarter for The Marcus Corp., with record revenues and a 61 percent increase in earnings. Marcus Theatres achieved record revenues and operating income, and continued to outperform the industry. Marcus Hotels & Resorts also reported record second quarter revenues, although operating income was negatively impacted by several factors,” said Gregory Marcus, president and chief executive officer.
