The Water Council was founded in 2007 under the premise of aligning the region’s water cluster resources. Today, the organization has thrust the region into the global forefront as the world’s most significant water research and industry hub.

Dean Amhaus has led The Water Council since 2010. As president and CEO, Amhaus has worked tirelessly to establish mutually beneficial relationships and collaborations to cement the organization as a highly regarded nonprofit worldwide.

In 2013, The Water Council opened the $22 million Global Water Center – a state-of-the-art 98,000-square-foot facility that offers not only research laboratories, but also incubator space for water entrepreneurs from all over the globe.

The council is a focused collaboration among private business, government and education that also helped establish the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Freshwater Sciences – the only program of its kind in the U.S.

“In a few short years, The Water Council has leveraged the region’s expertise and history in water technology to establish Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin as a global leader in freshwater technology, innovation, education and economic development,” said Isaiah Perez, communications and development associate for The Water Council. “The council’s unique approach to cluster development has become a national model for application in other industries across the United States.”

According to Perez, Amhaus’ leadership has laid the groundwork for the staff to continue to grow and evolve the collaboration.

The Water Council shows no sign of slowing down.

Amhaus recently secured a grant through JP Morgan Chase’s Small Business Forward program that will be used to identify and match investment capital with entrepreneurs and innovative small businesses, establishing Milwaukee as a go-to place for investment in water technology.

“The Council will continue to make waves in the global water sector as the council commands the attention of the world and is heralded as a global water leader,” said Rich Meeusen, chairman, president and CEO of Brown Deer-based Badger Meter, Inc.
