Brookfield-based remodeler The Cabinetree is constructing a new 8,000-square-foot building in the Town of Brookfield, right next door to the existing showroom where it has been located for decades.

The new 8,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse is being built at 595 N. Janacek Road, near the northwest corner of North Janacek Road and West Bluemound Road. In fact, the new building is going up just east of its current showroom at 19700 W. Bluemound Road. Construction is already underway, and is scheduled to finish in May or June this year, said Chris Draeger, president and owner of The Cabinetree.

The decision to move to the new building is in part due to the fact the company will be able to own its own building rather than continue to lease space, Draeger said. The showroom will also be about 2,000 square feet larger than its current one.

“We’ve been in business a long time and we’ve leased at the current location,” he said. “We’ve been growing and expanding our business and we had an opportunity to purchase a piece of land that came up for sale right next door to us. Being as we have been located in that spot for the last 35 years … we couldn’t think of a better place to move than right next door.”

This particular corner of North Janacek Road and West Bluemound is seeing a flurry of new development. The CabineTree will actually share a driveway with a planned Landmark Credit Union branch at 19600 W. Bluemound Road. The credit union purchased that 1-acre parcel and detailed plans for a new 4,000-square-foot free-standing branch in early January. Behind that is the site of the former Fun World building, which Stefans Soccer is planning to use for a new flagship store, company headquarters and warehouse space.

“That whole corner with Landmark and us is going to be all very new,” said Draeger.

The intersection is also about a half-mile from The Corners of Brookfield, a 750,000-square-foot retail, restaurant and apartment development.

The Cabinetree is a custom home-remodeler, and sells things like cabinets, flooring, tile and plumbing fixtures. It currently has 13 employees, but has added carpenters, tile installers and others to its payrolls in recent years. Draeger said he plans to continue adding staff, including salespeople and designers.
