Tandem owner asks for industry support after breaking ankle

Offers market rate pay for experience chefs, bartenders, servers

Local restaurateur Caitlin Cullen is asking for operational support for her restaurant after sustaining an injury that will keep her off her feet for up to three weeks.

Cullen is the owner and executive chef at The Tandem, a southern-style restaurant in Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood. It opened in 2016 and is also a teaching restaurant, employing and training high school graduates from the surrounding neighborhood.

Cullen said she broke her ankle last week and now unable to work during her three-week recovery. As a result, she has called on experienced chefs, servers, hosts, and bartenders to help oversee operations at The Tandem, offering to pay market rate.

“The best way for us to get through this roadblock will be through uninterrupted bumps in business, for those who have become loyal guests to keep enjoying our restaurant and to be patient while I recover so I am able to come back and run the restaurant with my family of employees, we have worked so hard to create a sustainable business for our community and I am hoping we can continue to do so for many years to come,” Cullen said in a statement.

She also asked for patience and continued patronage from local diners.

For those in the community who wish to help but do not fit the requirements for employment or lack time to patronize the restaurant, cash donations to fund extra employees in her absence can be sent directly to The Tandem at 1848 W Fond Du Lac Ave., Milwaukee, WI,” an announcement said.

Industry professionals interested in working at the restaurant can reach Cullen direct at (248) 508-9395 or email her at caitcull@gmail.com.
