Democratic hopeful Tom Barrett trails both of his GOP rivals in a new survey on the Wisconsin governor’s race.
The Public Policy Polling survey found 45 percent of those polled backed Republican Scott Walker in a head-to-head matchup with Barrett, who was supported by 38 percent. Former Congressman Mark Neumann led Barrett, 41-36.
The North Carolina-based group surveyed 638 Wisconsin voters by automated telephone call on June 26-27. The poll has a margin of error of plus of minus 3.9 percentage points.
The firm also found Walker with a significant lead over Neumann in the GOP primary. The survey of 400 Republican primary voters found 58 percent backed Walker compared to 19 percent for Neumann.
Sixty-four percent of the GOP primary voters had a favorable opinion of Walker, while only 10 percent viewed him unfavorably. By comparison, 33 percent had a positive impression of Neumann, compared with 27 percent who saw him in a negative light.
The poll found the two were about even with moderate voters. But those who considered themselves conservatives largely backed Walker.
That survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
