State Senate committee to hold hearing on state of Wisconsin’s banks

The Wisconsin Senate Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, Biotechnology and Financial Institutions will hold an informational hearing on the safety and soundness of Wisconsin’s banks at 10:30 a.m. today at Wauwatosa City Hall, 7725 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa.

Representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, the Wisconsin Bankers Association, the Community Bankers of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Credit Union League, the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association and the Wisconsin Realtors Association have been invited to testify. Testimony will be heard from invited speakers only.

“Our constituents are faced with story after story of economic crisis, and how the banking and housing industries are affecting the national economy. But as we determine the best plan for the state’s economic future, we must delve deeper than this nationwide snapshot and bring the Wisconsin financial picture into sharper focus,” said Senator Jim Sullivan (D-Wauwatosa), committee chair.
