What has fueled your company’s growth?
We have grown our client base to over 400 clients by focusing on one thing: providing a great experience for our customers. It is our goal to serve clients better than to which they are accustomed. Our tag line is “Doing Whatever I.T. Takes!” and we really live by this! The result is that we build long lasting relationships with our clients as their trusted technology advisor, and they are often kind enough to refer us to other clients.
What is the biggest obstacle to your company’s growth?
Even in this economy, our biggest challenge continues to be finding the right people to add to our team. Whether the role is performing technical, operational, or sales functions we look for individuals who: have a passion for technology and business, deeply enjoy serving others, are personable and friendly, and are accountable and act responsibly.
Do you plan any changes in your company in the upcoming months?
We are working to accomplish a lot before the end of this year, including: (1) continuing to improve our service delivery model, (2) implementing the ‘Entrepreneurial Operating System’ as described in the book Traction (by Gino Wickman), (3) focusing more on our practice areas for Google Apps deployments and Trixbox VoIP phone installations, (4) adding staff to our New Media division, (5) expanding our equipment rental inventory with new products such as Microsoft Surface tables and Telepresence solutions, and (6) developing new applications using augmented reality and multi-touch technologies.
Who are the business people, locally or nationally, whom you admire? And what traits do those people exhibit that make you admire them?
On a global level, Richard Branson of Virgin, for several reasons: (1) He is always entering new industries that he thinks are poorly run; (2) he sets huge goals and achieves most of them; (3) he is not afraid to fail; (4) he is active in and funds several charities; (5) he knows how to have fun while always shamelessly promoting his brand; and (6) he has a real passion for life. On a local level, Keith Miller of M Barrington (recently deceased), for several reasons: (1) he built great relationships with his clients, (2) he continually focused on educating and bettering himself, (3) he grew a great team of talented, hard working, and loyal employees, (4) he was a master networker, and (5) he knew how to work hard and play hard. To me, Keith Miller defined success in business and life.
What is the outlook for the business conditions of your industry over the next several months?
It varies by division (IT Services, New Media, Event Technologies). We chose to ignore most of the doom and gloom discussions about the economy. We see this as the time to step up to a challenge using creativity, innovation, and hard work in order to seek out new opportunities.
What is your company’s key strategy for rising out of the recession?
We have always looked at the recession as a challenge for ourselves. Right now we are focused on two things (1): improving ourselves by bettering our processes, coaching and motivating our staff, adding talented people to our team, and (2) growing market share through building new strategic partnerships, reviewing acquisition opportunities, and increasing our sales and marketing efforts.
