The U.S. Small Business Administration released a list today of every company across the country that received a Paycheck Protection Program loan through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. In Wisconsin, 85,461 PPP loans were provided, worth a total of $9.88 billion in loans to Wisconsin companies. The U.S. SBA did not disclose the exact amount of each loan and instead grouped recipients by loan category. The largest loan any one company could receive through the federal loan program was $10 million. The data shows how many jobs each company retained with their PPP loan. However, some companies may have elected not to retain employees, instead using PPP funds for other business expenses. BizTimes Media broke down the SBA’s data to highlight southeast Wisconsin’s top 44 PPP loan recipients, all of which received loans between $5 million and $10 million. Of the 85,461 PPP loans provided to Wisconsin companies, 85.54% were for less than $150,000, 7.96% were for loans between $150,000 and $350,000, 4.53% were for loans between $350,000 and $1 million, 1.24% were for loans between $1 million and $2 million, 0.6% were for loans between $2 million and $5 million and 0.12% were for loans between $5 million and $10 million. The average loan size in Wisconsin was $115,601 with a total of $9.88 billion in loans dispersed to companies throughout the state through June 30, according to the U.S. SBA. Total PPP loan dollars deployed in neighboring states include $22.5 billion in Illinois, $11.2 billion in Minnesota, $5.1 billion in Iowa, $9.25 billion in Indiana and $16 billion in Michigan. Nationwide, 5,461 lenders approved 4.8 million PPP loans for approximately $521 billion and with an average loan size of $106,744, according to the U.S. SBA.
President Donald Trump signed the Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act over the weekend, which gives businesses until Aug. 8 to apply for the federal loan program, the U.S. SBA announced today.
