South side Aldi to be rebuilt

The owner of the Aldi grocery store at 2705 S. 13th St., Milwaukee, southwest of Cleveland Avenue and 13th Street, plans to tear the building down and build a new building for the store.
The existing 13,605-square-foot building was constructed in 1967, and has been occupied by an Aldi store since 1991. The building has an assessed value of $633,000, according to city records.
The new store would have 17,887 square feet of space and would be built as a new prototype Aldi store, to maximize operational efficiencies.
The property owner, Marcia Sperber, is seeking a special use/dimensional variance for the project from the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals.
