Two of Wisconsin’s three living recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor were honored at a reception held by the Milwaukee Press Club recently at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee. Medal of Honor recipients Kent Stumpf of Menasha and Gary Wetzel of South Milwaukee were introduced by Doug LaViolette, chairman of the Wisconsin Convention of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. The national convention will take place in Green Bay Sept. 3-10, when about 70 of the nation’s 109 surviving Medal of Honor recipients will attend. For more information about the convention, visit www.medalofhonorwi07.com. The Press Club event was hosted by David Baldwin, owner of The Newsroom Pub and the Safehouse in Milwaukee. Stumpf and Wetzel both served in the Vietnam War. The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action that can bestowed upon members in the U.S. armed services.
