The 6,000-square-foot store will be located in a vacant commercial space in downtown Port Washington at 128 N. Franklin St.

The store will sell a wide array of outdoor products including camping equipment, canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards, outdoor clothing and footwear, military surplus, hunting gear, tactical gear, and knives.

Sherper’s will also operate a kayak, canoe, and stand-up-paddleboard rental structure at the north end of the Lake Michigan marina.

Nate Scherper, vice president of Sherper’s, said the family looked at several places in southeastern Wisconsin, but wanted to be located north of Milwaukee.

“Port Washington’s proximity to parks, rivers and Lake Michigan was perfect,” Scherper said. “A couple of representatives came to our Hales Corners store and met with us. They explained what Port looked like now and what it will look like over the next five years and it seemed like a growing community.”

The original Sherper’s store is located in a 15,000-square-foot space at 5750 S 108th St. in Hales Corners. There is a second, 8,000-square-foot store in Oconomowoc.
