SEEK Careers/Staffing launches job training program

Grafton-based SEEK Careers/Staffing Inc. has launched a new initiative, Trainable Fit, designed to close the skilled manufacturing gap by providing local manufacturers with candidates to fill open positions through on-the-job training.

SEEK will identify candidates with a proven work ethic, as well as a foundation of mathematical and mechanical reasoning aptitude to be considered a Trainable Fit.

The Trainable Fit concept is SEEK’s way of addressing the manufacturing companies’ hiring need for skilled manufacturing labor. That market is projected to grow by more than 13 percent in the next year.

“U.S. manufacturers employ more than 12 million skilled workers. There remain, however, about 600,000 skilled manufacturing jobs that are unfilled. The Trainable Fit initiative allows promising candidates to advance their skills while keeping manufacturing productivity moving. It’s a win-win,” said Carol Schneider, SEEK’s chief executive officer.

Qualified Trainable Fit candidates have consistent work history in a manufacturing environment or a recent trade school diploma, a minimum of two professional references that can vouch for them and an excellent attendance record with their previous employers. When a SEEK candidate tests at 90 percent or higher on basic math, he/she will be given additional testing for higher math and mechanical reasoning. Pending those passing scores, candidates will be offered to clients for Trainable Fit positions.

“With Trainable Fit, we are helping our clients spend less time looking for the perfect candidate and more time training the right one,” said Sarah Marie, team leader with Seek Careers/Staffing Inc. in Green Bay.

A career in skilled manufacturing can lead to an average annual salary greater than $64,000.

“It is invaluable when a candidate with the right mindset comes into your company ready to roll up his/her sleeves and start learning. You aren’t trying to break old habits. You are teaching the company’s mission. It saves time and money,” stated Marcus Norville, Milwaukee District team leader.
