Breaking Ground

In late March, the Medical College of Wisconsin and Greater Milwaukee Foundation announced they had selected the former Schuster’s department store building in Milwaukee’s Halyard Park neighborhood as the location of the groups’ new partnership.

The building, located at 2153 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, is to undergo a $100 million redevelopment. The MCW/GMF initiative will occupy about 150,000 square feet of the 470,000-square-foot building, where MCW will locate its community engagement programs and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation will put its headquarters.

The partnership between the two organizations aims to address social determinants of health in a neighborhood where health disparities are acute.

The project will take up to 16 months to complete.
